David Bowie Remembered

I was devastated to find out late last night that David Bowie had passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer. He had just released Blackstar, his final album, last Friday – his 69th birthday.

What can you say about the man that hasn’t been said already? He was a chameleon, constantly reinventing his sound and image over the course of a nearly five-decade career.  His music has been categorized as glam rock, progressive rock, funk, New Wave, and everything in between.  He had such a vast and diverse body of work that influenced and inspired everybody from Madonna to Trent Reznor to Maynard James Keenan to Layne Staley to Scott Weiland to Kanye West.  Here’s a sampling of reactions:

There’s not much more to add, except this link to the isolated vocal tracks for “Under Pressure.” Both David and Freddie sound fantastic.  R.I.P.
